Centralia’s quiz bowl team traveled to Highland High School for the annual Conference Quiz Bowl Tournament Saturday morning March 7.

Conference Quiz Champions — Kneeling: Sophomore Ryan Miller, standing left to right Junior Thomas Hudson, Senior Ben Ray, Senior Jacob Bentlage, Junior Andrew Rish. Coaches are Drew Darr and Andrew Reynolds.

The junior varsity squad placed fourth in the tournament with Bradley Werkmeister and Terra Veazey on JV All Conference based on their exceptional performance at the tournament.

Varsity won the conference tournament, beating Palmyra’s team in the final. While the championship game was tied going into the second half, Centralia was able to secure the victory in the second half, capping off an undefeated conference season!

Senior Jacob Bentlage was the top scorer for the tournament. Jacob Bentlage and Benjamin Ray were Varsity All Conference.
Centralia went seven wins, undefeated in regular tournament play this year. In our previous tournament, NAQT Qualifier held at Columbia College we placed 8th overall out of a field of 42 teams from around the tri-state area. We were one game away from the Small School title, which we lost to Hallsville.
Centralia Quiz Bowl will next be going on to Districts at Hallsville, March 18, and Nationals at Chicago next month, April 24-26.
This season’s varsity quiz bowl roster includes: Benjamin Ray, Jacob Bentlage – captain, Caroline Million, Ryan Miller, Thomas Hudson and Andrew Rish.
On JV: Terra Veazey – captain, Anna Million, Grant Harris, Eli Mccann, Isabella Buck, Bradley Werkmeister – captain, Emilee Morris, Faith Decker and Mackenzie Mccollum.
“It’s been a great year overall, and we are not quite done yet,” said Quiz Bowl Coach Andrew Darr
