Boone County Fair rolls in Sturgeon

Fair Board chairman Cook says at ‘the present point we are not looking at  returning to Columbia.’

It was a hot and busy day in Sturgeon while the Boone County Fair got down to business.

Kylie Sirois, nine, standing in the foreground, and friends, are shown here chasing candy tossed from the floats during the Boone County Fair’s opening parade, Saturday morning in Sturgeon.

The fair opened with a 32 float/participant parade, a five tractor, tractor drive and a 23-rider horse show.

For many, especially those lining Sturgeons’ sun-lit Ogden Street, the parade was the main attraction. From the Hallsville go-getters float – complete with a faux-smoking campfire, to the smile-packed wagon-load that was the Sturgeon High School Cheerleaders’ float, the parade had nearly something for everyone, and that included hailstorms of hand-thrown candy that put smiles on many young, and young at heart faces.
