Bylaws dictate Centralia school board response to vacancy

Posted on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at 5:52 pm

The October 20 resignation of Mike Fuller from the Centralia R-VI School Board will be dealt with per school district bylaws, said Darin Ford, R-VI superintendent.

“A possible timeline would be, accepting the resignation in November,” Ford said in an email to the Fireside Guard, “and declaring an opening.  Reviewing applications in December and swearing in at the January meeting.  This is if the board does not intend to have a Special Meeting in between.”

The bylaws seem to indicate the board must eventually appoint someone to fill Fuller’s vacancy.

“If a vacancy occurs on the Board of Education, the remaining members shall appoint a person to serve until the next school board election, when a director shall be elected for the unexpired term. In a case of resignation, a vacancy shall be declared to exist when the resignation letter is officially presented to the Board at a Board meeting.”
