The Centralia boys basketball team plays Monroe City for the Class III District 13 championship, 3 p.m., Saturday , Feb. 23 on Centralia’s Jim Enlow Court.
Centralia goes into the game with a 21-6 record. Monroe City’s is 23-4.
Centralia got there by beating Palmyra 55-50 in the second round of the District Tournament.
Monroe City beat Hallsville 76-37 to make it to the championship round.
Sturgeon’s Lady Bulldogs lost 50-19 to Salisbury in the Class II, District 7 tournament at Sturgeon.
Jahna Burris led Sturgeon with eight points, Emma Bright had six and Amber
Haas, four. Sturgeon finishes the season with a 12-13 record.
Cameron Loyd led Hallsville with nine, followed by BJ Fisher with seven. Cooper Crane and Jaelyn George backed them up with five each. Hallsville finished the season 11-12.
Monroe City’s high scorer was Clifford Talton with a game-high 23.
Guy Moran led Centralia to victory with 17 points, followed by Peyton Davis with 12 and Dallas Lewis with eight.
Palmyra finished the first quarter ahead of Centralia 21-16. Centralia caught them at the end of the half, 31-27, but fell behind again giving Palmyra the lead at third quarter’s end, 39-41. Timely three pointers by Peyton Davis and last minute free-throws by Nic Brooks and Moran sealed the deal for Centralia.
