A piece of yellow police tape flapped forlornly in the breeze as Jesse Jenkins dragged an eight-foot long piece of tin siding away from the entry of a burned-out shell that used to be his home.

Jesse Jenkins hauls charred scrap away from the burned remains of his family’s home.

The home of he and wife Shelly Jenkins and their seven children.

“This was our first home together,” he said, describing how they all slept in the three-bedroom double-wide in the Centralia Mobile Home Park, formerly Tidball’s Trailer Court, on the north side of Highway 22, a stone’s throw west of the Centralia Community Golf Course.

The fire that took away their home and almost everything they owned happened 7 p.m., Sunday, November 17.
