The Centralia High School Panthers wrestling team’s dual meet record is now 5-0.
The night of January 14, the team hosted the Marshall Owls and the North Callaway Thunderbirds and between the two, won all but one match.
Against North Callaway, these Panthers pinned their opponents, winning by fall: Brayden Dubes at 106 pounds, Jesses Shannon – 120, Duke Newsted – 126, Kyden Wilkerson – 132, Brayden Shelton – 138, Anthony
Stevens – 160, Rafe Mechlin – 170, Grafton Littrell – 182, Sam Lynn – 220 and Xaden Lockett – 285.
Against Marshall: Dubes, Maenner – 113, Shannon, Newsted, Stevens and Lynn also won by fall.
“Our kids are having fun,” Panther Head Coach Luke Gramke said afterward. “They were excited for everybody’s wins.”
He said he was seeing growth as the team nears the season’s mid-point. “Consistency, they were wrestling well at the beginning of the season. Now they are wrestling more consistently in those core positions.”
One bright spot, he said was Shelton’s moving up a weight-class and scoring an overtime win against North Callaway’s Jadon Henry, ranked in the top five in the state.
The wrestling team is home again Thursday night, January 16 against Moberly and Missouri Military Academy.
