The Centralia Panthers Baseball Team made the 2018 senior night one to remember.
They came from behind, got back in the game with a five-run fifth inning then tore the game away from visiting Montgomery County with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to win 9-8 before going into districts this Saturday noon in Montgomery County when they play Bowling Green.
The action-packed fourth inning defined the game.
Montgomery County scored five runs in the top of the fourth. Then the Panthers hit back with five of their own.
Evan Stidham led the charge with a single driving in Brett Jones for a run. Then Kaiden Davenport drove in Stidham and Clayton Simkins. Then Dawson Kirtley drove in Davenport with another single.
The Panthers put the lid on Montgomery County in the bottom of the seventh after Kirtley got on with a fly-ball triple, then scored on a passed ball. Then after Caden Vanskike got on with a double, Brett Jones finished it by driving him in with a single.
Ben Schmidt, Will Rolfson and Jones pitched for the Panthers.
Schmidt pitched the first inning and struck out one while giving up two hits and two runs.
Rolfson relived hime, striking out two while giving up one unearned run.
Jones pitched the last four, giving up eight hits and five runs.
Simkins led the Panthers on the scoreboard with two runs. Jared Holiman, Kirtley, Rolfson, Vanskike, Jones, Evan Stidham and Kaiden Davenport each scored one.
Kirtley and Davenport led the team with two RBIs each.
