Some are comparing it to an old Kevin Bacon movie.

Others abjure comparisons, they just want to the Centralia High School Class of 2020 to have a memory that many thought COVID-19 was going to prevent.

Centralia parents have banded together to throw a prom for the Class of 2020, along with their junior, sophomore and freshmen friends.

While there seems to be plenty of credit to go around, several participants point to Richard Michael, who along with his wife Lora as the originators of the idea.

The couple will be hosting this year’s privately-supported CHS prom, at the future Poppy’s Place, on the north side of the Centralia Square, the former Ritchie’s Building.

The prom, supported by parents and local business, will be held 8 p.m., Friday, May 29, Richard said. The grand march will be held 7:15 p.m., around the Centralia City Square Park that evening before the prom begins. Richard said the prom will close at midnight. The theme will be “Starry Night.”
