Centralia Police Department labels kidnapping call fake

Posted on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 1:42 pm

The afternoon and evening of Friday, May 3, people across Centralia and northern Boone County were concerned.

The Centralia Police Department worked in conjunction with the FBI on a recent threat to a Centralia church.

The Centralia Police Department worked in conjunction with the Boone County Sheriff’s Department to investigate what they said was ultimately a false claim of attempted kidnapping.

Many had heard that a young, pre-teen, girl was the target of an attempted abduction after school Friday, in the neighborhoods south of Centralia’s city square.

By Saturday morning, Bob Bias, chief of the Centralia Police Department was asking people to remain calm and assuring everybody the matter was being thoroughly investigated by CPD officers and Boone County Sheriff’s Department deputies.

Bias told the Fireside Guard, “We have mobilized officers and brought in the Boone County Sheriff’s Department. We are actively searching for

evidence in this case. While we have not yet isolated a suspect, rest assured this investigation is ongoing.”
