Two months after legendary Centralia Lady Panthers Softball Coach Jill Angell announced her retirement, the Central School District has announced her replacement.
Centralia High School Principal Matt Smith issued this news release this morning.
“Centralia High School is pleased to announce the hiring of Kendra Murphy as its new Head Softball Coach. Coach Murphy has most recently been the Head Softball Coach at Hannibal High School, where she inherited a struggling program and built them into a consistent contender in the NCMC and at the district level. In her five-year tenure at Hannibal, the Lady Pirates made multiple district title game appearances and finished as runners-up in the NCMC each of the past two seasons. Coach Murphy is a graduate of both Baker University and Hannibal Lagrange University.”
Smith said Murphy created a culture of winning at Hannibal and her record of success help her stand out among the four applicants considered for the position.
“She’s got some big shoes to fill,” Smith said regarding Murphy taking over for Angell. “Our girls take the field with the expectation of being successful. The built that same expectation at Hannibal and that impressed me.”
