At least 250 students between the grades of kindergarten and eighth, are studying in the classrooms of Centralia’s Chance Elementary and Centralia Intermediate School.

Even socially distanced, it is still recess time at Centralia’s Chance Elementary School

Summer school in Centralia has begun.

Albeit, a less-crowded, quieter version, agreed Beck Balsamo, the director of this year’s Centralia R-VI summer school program.

The 300 students are taught, four days a week, by 25 teachers and staff he said, 10 teaching at the kindergarten through second-grade levels and eight for the third- through eighth-grade. Additionally, the district employs a 10-member custodial staff to apply a deep cleaning to the classrooms, bathrooms and the rest of the facilities every Friday, Balsamo said.
