Friends, neighbors and fans have begun to rally in assistance for the Friendship Christian Church which burned April 17.

More than a dozen people, at least 15, hustled and bustled beneath and between the Centralia Fairgrounds’ pole barn and concession stand the morning of Thursday, April 22.

They were setting up a community meal to raise money for the church’s rebuilding. Most were members of the Tulip Christian Church’s congregation.

Some got there earlier than others.

Dwain Shelton was there at 3 a.m. with a pile of bagged charcoal and 182 pounds of pork loin.

Late morning found him assisted by Ben Gibbon and Dennis Ryan.
