The afternoon of May 12 nine students walked down the aisle at the Centralia United Methodist Church.
The event was one of life’s milestones for them.
Sarah Mai Amspacher-Dell, Alexxis Nicole Geggus, Philip Tate Gooding, Michael Dewyane Monroe, Jr.. Torrey Allen Newbrough, Jr., Michael Abraham Pastrana, Joshua Michael Sheppard, Alex Wayne Thompson, Bryce and Cole Walden comprise the 21st graduating class of Champion Academy, the Centralia School district’s well-regarded alternative school.
At least 50 friends, faculty and family members attended.
The graduates had voted to have Centralia High School language arts teacher and alumnus Elizabeth Simms as their commencement speaker and she did not disappoint them.
Sims discussed and discarded many of the cliches’ of the traditional graduation speech.
