the next level of performance
All told, maybe six months of hard work paid off in aplause for 53 members of the Centralia High School student body Friday, April 12 at CHS.
That is when the student body and CHS Chamber Choir production opened for the first night of its two-night run of the Broadway musical “Hello Dolly.”
An estimated 250 people showed up to watch the two-act, seven-scene next step in the evolution of CHS musicals.
While co-director and CHS vocal music and orchestra teacher Leah Rolfson said the students had been doing broadway musicals for some time now, the students performance marked a milestone in a trend began two years ago with their performance of “Tarzan.”
With the inclusion of 19-member kick-line and a tap-dance and song routine by Kody Walters, the student-thespians showed their audience that CHS musicals were heading beyond the “school play,” phase.
The second and final show opens 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 13 at the CHS gym.
