school librarians to which district patrons were accustomed will return.

Currently the district has enough art instructors and school librarians to meet the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s minimum standards, said Darin Ford, R-VI superintendent.

Centralia has 3.5 librarians; Southern Boone has four and Hallsville had two – along with two aides to keep its four school libraries open.

Centralia has three art teachers. Hallsville had 3.67 art teachers and Southern Boone, 4, Ford said. Centralia had four art teachers, but when Dena Dollens who taught art at Centralia Intermediate School and Chester Boren Middle School retired, Ford said the district used her retirement as an opportunity to realize some savings. “We were in a position to get our personnel numbers down.”

Regarding both situations, Ford said “It is not an emergency, but it’s not ideal either.”
