The sound of cardboard being cut, paper being torn and bags being unfolded filled the room in the southwest corner of Hubbell Power Systems Engineering building.
Hubbell staff members and Centralia School District Champion Academy Students were working together to make the holiday season a little warmer for five Centralia School District families and 122 district students.
Pausing from stacking paper bags full of foodstuffs Grant Gevermuehle and Tate Gooding explained what they were doing and why they were there.
“To help people, kids, have a better Christmas,” said the two champion students, both in their first year of helping with the program. “It helps the kids out and gives them extra food for break when they might not have some.”
“We honestly enjoy helping with that program,” said Debbie Harper, Champion Academy director, she said of the five Champion students helping pack the bags. “The students love being involved in this project, helping and giving back. As with any student it’s good for them to give back to the community.”
