Things are spinning at the Centralia Parks Department.

At least on the department’s Centralia Community Golf Course.

That is where Dave Deener, Jr., and the rest of the Centralia Missouri Disc Golf Club will be working with the department to host a disc golf tournament.

Saturday November 13 the “18 for 18 Disc Golf Frenzy,” will be held at the Centralia Community Golf Course.

Organizers say proceeds from the event will help fund the addition of nine, disc golf baskets, and tee-pads for the course’s back nine.

Deener said he was hoping for at least 30 competitors, depending on the weather.

“It’s simple, fun, good exercise – you get a lot of steps in,” Deener said when asked what people like about disc golf. “It is a good reason to get together with friends and enjoy a little challenge.”

Deener said the club is almost two years old.

In other business at the park department’s October 26 meeting, board members discussed equipment and fish purchases and other upcoming events.

Erle Bennett, parks director said the department has re-stocked the two ponds at the city recreation park and one of the golf course ponds with 630 fish, 250 catfish, 150 Bass, 200 Red-ear Sunfish, and 30 Shiners. For the complete article, see this week’s edition of the Centralia Fireside Guard.
