Marilyn J. Travis, 78, of Melissa, TX passed away on Friday, December 24, 2021, following an extended illness.
Marilyn’s Life Celebration service will be held 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Fenton-Kendrick Funeral Home in Centralia. Visitation will be held from 11 am until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Following her wishes, Marilyn will be interred in the Centralia City Cemetery following the service.
Marilyn was born on July 30, 1943, in Mexico, MO as the youngest daughter of Junior and Sara McKenzie. Marilyn grew up in Centralia, MO and married Thomas E. Travis on December 28, 1963. They have a daughter, Stacey, who has been the joy of their life.
Marilyn is a graduate of William Woods College in Fulton, MO. She spent most of her adult life in Columbia, MO where she worked in the administrative offices of the Columbia Public School System. Although her heart remained in Missouri, Marilyn moved to the Dallas, TX area later in life. She worked at Darr Equipment Company and retired from there in 2015. Marilyn was an avid reader, loved and protected every dog she encountered, and liked to dabble with flowers.
Most of all, Marilyn loved her family. She is survived by her husband, Tom, and daughter, Stacey, of McKinney, TX; two brothers, Dwight (Mary Linda) McKenzie and Gene (Velda) McKenzie; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, in-laws, and extended family members. She will be remembered as a beloved mother, wife, sister, and aunt who always welcomed a visit and never failed to let you know how much she loved you.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Junior and Sara McKenzie, and older sister, Shirley Jones.
