The angel Gabriel appeared to Zechariah, Mary, and Joseph in the months leading up to the birth of our Lord Jesus. Zachariah was terrified when he saw Gabriel. Mary was troubled when Gabriel told her she was favored by God. Joseph was afraid to take Mary as his wife after finding out she was already pregnant.

In each case Gabriel told them to not be afraid.

“But the angel said to him: “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, because your prayer has been heard. You wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will name him John.” – Luke 1:13

“Then the angel told her: “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.” – Luke 1:30

“But after he had considered these things, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, don’t be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because what has been conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.” – Matthew 1:20

We have all been there at one point or another in this life. Fear has a tendency to take over when something unexpected hits, the unknown, obstacle seems to great, when there is risk, or when it appears that what we have been working for is lost.

This fear can paralyze us and keep us from taking the next step, it can cause us to lose our sense of security, or steer us in the wrong direction. Fear can be crippling and it can kill your happiness.

Zechariah, Mary, and Joseph were afraid, but God’s angel told them, ‘Do not be afraid’. All three of them were going to be blessed more than they ever imagined as they let go of their fear. Zechariah was going to be a father.

Mary was going to give birth to a Son who was going to bring salvation to all, and Joseph was going to be the earthly father to our Lord.

You may be saying you can relate to Zechariah, May, or Joseph. You are afraid of what is going on in your life. You may be afraid of some circumstances outside your control or the unknown future ahead of you. Maybe your fear is that your sins are too great for our God to forgive.

The message for you is the same as the message given to Zechariah, Mary, and Joseph. Don’t be afraid!

Do not be afraid of anything this life is throwing at you. Do not be afraid of the circumstances out side of your control. Do not be afraid of the future ahead of you. Do not be afraid that your sins cannot be forgiven.

Do Not Be Afraid, a Savior, the one and only Messiah, the Lord God, was born for you. You have absolutely no reason at all to be afraid.

“6 Be strong and courageous; don’t be terrified or afraid of them. For the Lord your God is the one who will go with you; he will not leave you or abandon you.” – Deuteronomy 31:6

When Gabriel appeared to Joseph, he mentioned that the baby was to be name Immanuel, which means God with us. our Lord and Savior is with you always. He will never leave you or abandon you. No matter what you are dealing with, no matter what your sin is… Jesus is with you.

If God is with you, and He is with all who believe, you have absolutely nothing to fear.

As we celebrate Christmas remember that your Savior loves you and His message to you during this season and every season of your life is ‘Do Not Be Afraid.’
