The sharp smell of roofing glue, the “clump-clump,” of not-so-little feet sounding overhead, those adverbs to the back to school experience at Centralia R-VI are almost gone, meaning the district’s roof renovation is almost complete, R-VI superintendent Steven Chancellor said.

The situation has improved since his statement at the August 8 meeting of the Centralia R-VI School Board: “We were pretty wet today… I wish I could say I was more impressed, but I can’t, I have clearly articulated the areas in which I am disappointed… Thursday is non-negotiable for us. We are giving them the opportunity to meet their obligation.” He said there will be lots of damaged ceiling tiles to be reported to the insurance company and a half-inch of water in the district’s computer server room, “tons and tons of water in places we are not used to seeing water… These are things we cannot accept.”
