One endeavor where the right tools for the right job is especially important is painting.
Amanda Dawson, manager at Ritchie & Sons – Centralia, said one of the most common and important value adding spring projects is house-painting, both interior and exterior.
“Interior rooms such as a kitchen, exterior features such as walls, they are good do-it-yourself spring project that not only make things look better, but also add value to your home.” Dawson said.
Planning is very important when it comes to doing a good paint job, she said, and could be broken down to two parts.
* Make sure your surfaces are properly prepared
* Make sure you have all your painting supplies before you start
Regarding preparation, Dawson said, get the surfaces to be painted clean and cleaned right. “Paint does not stick well to some surfaces. Glossy surfaces for example. Make sure they are clean and get a paint designed to stick to them. Also, you could lightly sand then first, scratching them up a little will help the paint stick.”
Regarding cleaning, she reiterated: “Make sure walls are free of grease as well as peeling or chipping paint. There are some heavy-duties cleaners that will help. You just need to be sure the surfaces are free of splotches, grease and gunk.”
