An estimated 1,370 students passed through the doors of the Centralia R-VI School District on its first day of school, Thursday, August 15.
One thing the students had in common was lunch.
Opening day, 604 R-VI students ate lunch at the district’s four different cafeterias, said Alisia Sebers district director of nutrition:
• 160 at Centralia High School
• 159 at Chester Boren Middle School
• 144 at Centralia Intermediate School
• 141 at Chance Elementary School.
Sebers said the numbers were low, especially in the elementary and middle school group “because a lot of the kids are trying out their new lunch boxes. But as the year progresses we will likely serve around 1,100 meals district-wide.”
The big moment for Chance Elementary School occurred at 11:05 a.m.
