Sturgeon Bulldogs host Madison Panthers for season-opener

The Sturgeon Bulldogs boys and girls basketball teams hosted the Madison Panthers Tuesday night for some Central Activities Conference high school basketball.

Sturgeon’s Lady Bulldogs lost to Madison 50-34.

Sturgeon’s boys won 70-19.

Madison dominated every quarter of the girls game, though it started close,  8-6 Madison at the end of the first.

But by halftime, Madison was up 23-12 and kept the lead by the end of the third, 33-24.

Jalissa Wood led Sturgeon with 12 points, followed by Alayna Hall with 10 and Taylor Harris with 4.

Savanna Cullom led Madison with 18, followed by Riley Thomas with 17.

On the boys side, it was never close.

Sturgeon opened strong and finished the first quarter ahead 28-2. At halftime the score was 43-6 Sturgeon and at the end of the third tis 54-16 Sturgeon.

Jacob Brooks led the Bulldogs with 16 points, followed by Mikel Sturgeon, Jake Snider and Michael Hatfield with eight each.

Joe O’Bannon led Madison with eight followed by Tyler Buck with seven.

Logan Flaspohler goes up for 2.
