On July 27, volunteers from Centralia, Sturgeon, Clark, Hallsville and Thompson held their annual Tri-City Friends of NRA event benefitting the NRA Foundation. A packed house enjoyed a prime rib meal, honored our local veterans and participated in games, raffles and auctions for NRA collectible items,
historic prints and various sporting goods prizes including over 40 firearms.
The NRA Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit and has been in existence for 26 years. Last year 37 Friends of NRA events were held across Missouri and as a result, more than $640,000 was awarded in NRA Foundation grants across the state. In the past five years alone just under $157,000 has been awarded in Boone and adjacent counties. Funds raised at NRA Foundation events such as the one held in Centralia each year are used strictly for shooting programs (primarily youth focused), training and education, school safety and awareness and for range development and improvement programs. Friends of NRA event dollars are not used for salaries, political action or for any legislative purposes. Foundation grants are typically awarded to 4H, FFA, Boy Scouts and Junior ROTC competitive shooting programs along with other church and home school network based shooting programs.
