In a lunchtime chat with 14 Centralia Rotarians at the Centralia Golf and Social Club, Matt Smith, Centralia High School principal outlined where vocational education had been in CHS and where it is going.

He was also there to accept a $10,858 check from the Rotary Club and took the opportunity to discuss other career pathways being nurtured at CHS.

It is a topic that has changed over the last few decades, Smith said.

“When I was in school people would talk to me about careers in a general way,” he said. “Back then you were told if you did not go to college you would not have success. Also, if you did not do what you enjoy, you would not be happy.”

Fast forward to Centralia, 2018.
