The Centralia Panthers won the Class 1 District 2 wrestling tournament scoring 194 team points far outpacing runner-up North Callaway’s 148. In dominant fashion, Centralia advanced 10 wrestlers to the district finals, earning six individual district champions and four, second place finishes – advancing each to the sectional round. Brayden Dubes (113), Jesse Shannon (120), Kyden Wilkerson (138), Brayden Shelton (145), Hunter Phillips (195) and Seth Hasekamp (285) each won their weight class earning status as district champion and top seeding in the sectional round. “Having big wins in the semifinals that put ten kids in the finals, that’s pretty insurmountable,” said Head Coach Luke Gramke. “That’s what separated us from other teams.”
Dubes, undefeated at 39-0 on the season pinned Landon Kjolhede from Missouri Military Academy in the semifinals then won a 7-1 decision against Hallsville’s Parker Crane in the finals. Shannon, currently 31-7, pinned his way through the finals including a win by fall over Kaleb Caldwell of Hallsville and then pinned North Callaway’s Connor Green in the championship round. Wilkerson at 30-4 pinned Grayson Stevens of Palmyra followed by a second period pin-fall over Blake Whipple of North Callaway. Shelton, with only one blemish against 38 wins on the season, quickly pinned Brett Miles of MMA in the semi’s match then subsequently pinned Hallsville’s Jacob Plummer in 2:12 of the finals. Phillips, 14-2, won by fall over MMA’s Phasakorn Cunningham followed by a second period pin in 3:01 against Palmyra’s Nolyn Richards.
