The Audrain County Health Department Board of Health has begun its search for a new administrator in the wake of the resignation of former Administrator Doctor Sandra Hewlett. Board Chair Doctor Kathleen Weaver says that the search began almost immediately after the Board of Health accepted Dr. Hewlett’s resignation at an emergency board meeting on Tuesday, October 5th.
Hewlett was hired as director, May, 2015.
“We have launched an aggressive advertising campaign across several media outlets along with social media and state health job boards,” Dr. Weaver said. “We hope to have a lot of potential candidates to review in the very near future.”
“The staff is still very committed to providing the same services as before,” she added. “Our residents health is our primary concern, especially with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, so there should be no question that these services will continue uninterrupted.”
Two current staff members have been appointed to oversee the day to day operations of the department.
“The day-to-day operations of the department are not rudderless at all,” she said. “The board has the fullest of confidence in the appointed interim administrators in (Registered Nurse) Becky Wieberg and (Registered Nurse) Katie Swaim. Our hope is to have a new full-time administrator in place very soon, but we are not going to rush to fill a position just because it is empty. We’re going to find the right candidate for this position.”
