Centralia Panthers basketball update
Courtesy Richard Dickerson, Centralia Fireside Guard basketball correspondent Week 2 of the regular season kicked off on Tuesday night with the Lady Panthers taking on the North Callaway Lady Thunderbirds for the first varsity only night at Jim Enlow Court. Braylin Brunkhorst charged out of the gate with a 3-pointer and then a steal to score. The next trip Ryenn Gordon had the steal sending the ball down court to Brunkhorst for another score. They accounted for all the scoring for Centralia in the first quarter logging 16 and leading by 10 after the buzzer. Gordon fed Brunkhorst to start the second period and then blocked a Thunderbird 3-point attempt. NC then made a little run scoring 4 points before Bailey Scheuring dropped two from the block. NC would have their best scoring in the second but Gordon and Brunkhorst repeated the steal, pass, score process a few more times going to half up 31 to 14. Centralia would only add 10 points in the third but allowed zero from North Callaway. With the mercy clock on for the last period and the starters on the bench after Gordon's two free throws to open the fourth. Ealynne Bostick (3), Madilynn Hunter (2) and Meron Hedrick (4) accounted for the balance of Centralia's scoring to win 52-20. Braylin Brunkhorst led all scoring with 26 and Ryenn Gordon had 10. The boys took the court next, and another junior classman led the Panther squad. Anthony Ford started the scoring and kept that pace steady for the game. Ford would score 9 in the first, 9 in the second and 2 in the third for his game leading 20-point total. Seniors Logan Rosenfelder, Ramsey Webb, and Travis Brooks also got into the scoring column in the opening period with Centralia leading 21-7 after one. Senior Dryst Bostick and junior Elliot McCoy helped to shoulder some of the load for the second while expanding to a 42-12 lead by half. The Panthers continued to take care of business in the third by putting another 13-points up and turning on the mercy clock for the final quarter. The reserves took the court to close out the game with a highlight being a breakaway inside of one minute that saw sophomore Hunter Hull dunk the ball for the last Centralia score. Centralia went two for two on the night as the boys won 62 to 38. Anthony Ford led all scoring with 20, Logan Rosenfelder had 11.
