Hallsville boys win Centralia Invitational, Centralia nets third

Courtesy Richard Dickerson, Centralia Fireside Guard basketball correspondent The Centralia and Hallsville girls started the week on Monday and the northern Boone County marquee switched to a boys matchup on Thursday. All the usual names you've come to expect dotted the scorebook in the first period. Indian Isaac Stinson scored first with an answer from Travis Brooks for Centralia. Two trips later Stinson put Logan Rosenfelder in the spin cycle to score. Dryst Bostick put in two free throws after a Peyton Schleeter foul. Rosenfelder would get some offense going with a score followed by a Cameron Cox 3-pointer to tie things at five each mid quarter. The first would end with a 12-14 Indian lead for the primetime second round battle. Brooks started the Centralia scoring again, this time from the free throw line. Anthony Ford jumped into the book with a put-back score off a Centralia miss to tie things again at 14. The tie didn't last long as Abraham Rhoades got a 3-pointer from the bench. The lead stayed with Hallsville until Travis Brooks fought his way up to score through the arms of a couple Indian defenders to tie it at 22. More trading of baskets until Stinson got a 3-pointer to drop just before half to get Hallsville the lead, 24-27. While Centralia spread scoring out over ten Panthers during the game, Hallsville leaned heavily on Keilin Dorman and Isaac Stinson. That pair scored one after the other in the early third quickly pushing it to a 37-26 Indian lead in just under four minutes. Centralia's Anthony Ford would earn his fourth personal foul shortly after that and put Centralia's leading scoring threat safely on the bench. The Indians capitalized by opening up a 48-30 margin by the periods end and wouldn't let the Panthers back in it, winning 71-49. Anthony Ford finished with 14. Travis Brooks 10. Keilin Dorman and Isaac Stinson led all scorers with 21 each.

Centralia dominated the scoreboard going to half with an 18-point lead

Centralia dominated the scoreboard going to half with an 18-point lead. The only tough moments came for Centralia when lone senior Scheuring went down under the Centralia basket with a neck injury while fighting for a rebound. The always smiling Scheuring would leave the court on a gurney as a precaution but was checked out and given the all clear after the game in Columbia in the wee hours of morning. Playing now to close things out for their fallen teammate, the Panthers poured on the coals and freight trained Tolton headed for the fourth. Winning with a final 6441 score and moving to defend the 67th and 68th CIT crowns against the #2 seeded Boonville Pirates. Brunkhorst led all scoring with 27 while Gordon banked 17 and scored enough points to defeat Tolton between the two of them.

Lady Panthers 3-Peat as Centralia Invitational Champions!

Courtesy Richard Dickerson, Centralia Fireside Guard basketball correspondent The week started with Centralia quickly dispatching Hallsville in the #1 vs #8 match. Round two had the #4 seed Father Tolton Trailblazers trying to avenge a loss from the District Championship that ended the Blazers 23-24 season. One of the newest Panthers, Ealynne Bostick, scored first followed by Braylin Brunkhorst getting a steal and converting that into Centralia points. Senior Bailey Scheuring then swatted a Blazer shot before teammate Ryenn Gordon could get on the board, game on, Centralia 10-3. Ryenn logged an assist next, throwing the football pass to a streaking Brunkhorst and forcing a Tolton timeout in less than three minutes. Bostick snapped the net again to keep the Centralia train rolling. She then fed it to Gordon earning an assist with the score. Scheuring used her feet to stay in front of the Blazers guard causing a double dribble and turnover. Madi Johnson's quickness drew a foul, getting to the line to score 2 and put the Panthers up 13-5 halfway through the opening quarter. That was the closest the Trailblazers would get in the half.
