A Centralia business icon is fading into history.
The Ritchie family has announced the Centralia branch of the Ritchie and Sons Hardware store, for many the epitome of customer service, will close sometime in the first quarter of 2020.
The week of December 11 the store began an extended clearance sale.
Speaking with the Fireside Guard at their Sturgeon store, David and Kelly Ritchie-Martin said the decision to close the six-employee store was a heartbreaking one, but one made necessary by market forces.
They said they plan to sell the building, but so far there is no local interest. “There have been a few out of town inquiries,” Kelly said, “but you never know if they are serious or not.”
