Centralia’s Board of Aldermen took the next step toward facilitating Centralia’s next big residential development.

At his request, they unanimously voted, during their February 18 meeting to annex Darren Adams’ 20-acre plot into the city of Centralia.

Heather Russell, Centralia city administrator said the aldermen’s’ vote was unanimous, though not without some attention.

“There were several people in the audience who wanted to voice their opinions,” Russell said. “They wanted to talk about his final use for the property, but this was not the time for that.”

The annexation hearing, she said, was for the aldermen to discuss if Adams’ proposal met three specific qualifications.

They are:

• Is it adjacent to the city limits?

• Can the city provide the property with utilities?

• Does the proposal adhere to the city’s comprehensive plan?

“Unanimously voted that it does,” she said.

She said the next hearings on the topic will be when the public can share their views, one will regard rezoning the property, the other to discuss Adams’ sketch plat.
