A kinder, gentler, softer water is returning to Centralia’s faucets.
After nearly two years’ of issues with the city water department’s slaker, a sort of industrial-sized water softener, softened water could be returning to Centralia’s water mains later this summer.
“Ideally by the end of July,” Tara Strain, Centralia city administrator, said when asked when the new slaker will arrive at Centralia’s water plant.
Almost everything is ready at the water plant for the installation, she said.
“There is one concrete pad that must be poured, but per the manufacturer’s specifications, that cannot be done until the slaker is on site.”
Things had been delayed from the original, June 17, projected arrival date due to supply chain problems with the slaker’s heating elements, she said.
“The timeline did get pushed back a little bit,” Strain said. “The company building our slaker was waiting on a final heater to be delivered. Then they had to attach and test it before they could ship it… I think we should have it within the next couple of weeks…
