The Varsity Lady Panthers haven’t seen the friendly confines of Jim Enlow Court since January 8 against Capital City. They returned home with an exclamation point on Tuesday, February 2 against CCC foe Brookfield. They thundered from the gates behind the newcomers to the Varsity roster, Freshman Morgan Ross’ 8 points and Sophomore Annie Robinson’s 6 points. Offensively Brookfield was unable to gain any traction against the pressing Lady Panthers only mustering 1 point in the 1st quarter and 6 by the half. The home squad opened a 20-point lead after one, extending to 36 points at half, 40 after three and finishing in convincing fashion 63 to 12. Jozelynn Bostick took the baton for scoring in the second period chipping in 8 of her 12 total points while Morgan Ross led all scoring with five 3-point buckets to a total of 19 points on the game. Every Lady Panther made it to the floor for considerable playing time and each one scored on Tuesday night. The boys have also been on the road since January 12 when they faced Boonville in a tight game. They too hit the court running against the Bulldogs. Jackson Wells seemed at times unstoppable going to the rim on the Bulldog defense. Senior Liam Hill and Junior Grant Erisman also slashed into the paint to rebound
and score. The front court frustrated the Bulldog guards harassing them down the court and trapping once they crossed the Panther at mid court. The Panthers seemed just a step ahead of the Brookfield squad the entire game. No play epitomized that more than a racing Senior guard Kile Chitwood hitting streaking teammate with a skip pass and the easy layup in the first quarter. The Panthers simply outpaced the Bulldogs all evening with a commanding lead and running clock to close the final quarter. The hardwood Panthers return on Friday where they will try to repeat the two-win performance against CCC opponent in Highland.
