A piece of yellow police tape flapped forlornly in the breeze as Jesse Jenkins dragged an eight-foot long piece of tin siding away from the entry of a burned-out shell that used to be his home.

“This was our first home together,” he said, describing how they all slept in the three-bedroom double-wide in the Centralia Mobile Home Park, formerly Tidball’s Trailer Court, on the north side of Highway 22, a stone’s throw west of the Centralia Community Golf Course.
The fire that took away their home and almost everything they owned happened 7 p.m., Sunday, November 17.
