First Christian Church holding Groundhog Day soup supper to repair roof
One local church is working on a tasty way to keep a roof over its head.
In order to fund improvements to their church’s roof, the congregation of the Centralia First Christian Church will host a Ground Hog Day soup supper, Tuesday, Feb. 2, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the church’s Allen Street parking lot.
Due to COVID-19 cautions, the soup supper will be a drive-thru affair, Pam Gordy, one of the organizers, said.
The soup menu includes: chili, vegetable, and potato. “We will have less choices than normal since we are doing a drive-thru,” Gordy said. “We are replacing the roof over the fellowship hall which is 60 years old.”
There will also be crackers and home-made chocolate chip cookies for desert.
A quintet of volunteers will be cooking this year’s soup selection: Brenda Snell, Becky Wheeler, Gordy, Susie Getzlaff and Cindy March.
At least 10 others will lend their baking skills to cookie production. “Members of the congregation are coming together to donate the items we need,” Gordy said.
The church is 110 years old, Gordy said and also hosts the Lighthouse daycare program.
