CIS students practicing innovation
Centralia Intermediate School’s innovative program to foster innovation among its fifth-grade students as well as the public-private partnership with local businesses, recently got a boost.
The Hubbell Foundation donated $5,000 to the schools seven-year-old Shark Tank program.
One of the program’s founders, Marcia Kalinowski, fifth-grade science teachers.
“This will help us fund the Shark Tank for several years,” she said.
The school’s 75 fifth grade students are finishing the prototypes of their inventions and will be demonstrating them to the six-member Shark Tank board, Wednesday, February 10 in the CIS gym.
This year’s inventions include devices to help dry facemask, a body-sized “umbrella keeper,” a modified Hoverboard that sweeps the floor as the user rides it and a pedal-operated hand-sanitizing station just to name a few.
