‘Trying to clear up misinformation’

A topic that has been simmering in the Centralia City Hall council chambers for almost 20 years is quickly coming to a boil.

But it is not there yet.

Friday, August 16, Centralia Mayor Chris Cox met with the Centralia Police Department’s seven dispatchers to bring them up to speed on discussions city representatives have been having with the Boone County Commission regarding allowing Boone County Joint Communications to take over Centralia’s police, fire and Emergency Medical Services dispatching.

Very little is set in stone, one person speaking off the record said, and no votes on the topic have been taken in the council chambers.

However, one thing is.

Boone County voters approved the 3/8ths cent, 911 Emergency Service Sales Tax on April 2, 2013 which helps fund Joint Communications, including county wide fire, rescue, public safety and EMS dispatch. Centralia’s taxpayers have been paying it since it went into effect the following August.
