Centralia will have a pool this summer.
It will also have a swim team.
Along with volunteer-supported improvements at the Centralia Community Golf Course, those are two of the outtakes from the Centralia Park Department’s most recent board meeting.
Park Director Erle Bennet said the county’s likely lifting of most pool-related COVID-19 restrictions later this month will enable the pool to be open in the manner to which users are accustomed.
The pool will open 1 p.m., Monday, June 7, Bennett said. The regular hours will be 1 to 5 p.m. Monday thru Thursday and 1 to 5:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Pool parties will be scheduled 7 -9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Swimming lessons and aqua-size will also be scheduled during the summer.
Regarding the start date, Bennett said it is later than usual because of last year’s inactivity. “All the lifeguards need to be recertified due to the pool not opening last summer and certification will take place the last week of May and the first week of June.”
Regarding the swim team, however, he said the change will come too late to benefit the team’s schedule. It was drawn up before a potential lifting of the restrictions was in sight, so he said, there were no home meets scheduled. All the team’s swim meets were booked in venues operating under regulations less restrictive than Boone County’s.
