There are many signs that summer has arrived.
One of them occurred the afternoon of May 20 at the Centralia Park Department’s Endow Recreation Center.
That was when members of the Centralia Park Board voted to hire 27 people for summer help.
The hires came in four flavors: umpires – 18, supervisors – three, summer custodial – 3 and summer concessions – two, and one weekend greens mower.
Erle Bennett, parks director, said there will be park activities scheduled for July 4, including fireworks in the evening and the pool staying open until midnight.
In other pool-related business, Bennett said the pool has been filled and lifeguards have been re-certified and 20 Punch Pass Cards are available for $60 at the Recreation Center and can be shared by children and adults.
He also said the pool’s interior walls have been repaired with patches, caulk, and paint. The board discussed re-painting the entire pool in the Fall, but no action was taken.
The Centralia Community Golf Course was also a topic.
The course now has 142 members, Bennett said and there are meal fundraisers scheduled at the course for every Wednesday night this summer.
