The Centralia Police Department has fired an officer in relation to allegations of attempted sex with a minor.
Clint Baer who has worked for the CPD as a patrolman since 2017 was relived of duty by the city after allegations regarding his using the internet to attempt sexual relations with a 14-year-old-girl led to Baer’s being charged by federal prosecutors with using the internet to attempt sexual congress with a minor.
According to broadcast media Baer was arrested in Wentzville by federal authorities and is now in federal custody.
Central City Administrator Heather Russell released the following statement Tuesday afternoon.
“In the late evening hours at approximately 8:30 p.m. on October 7, 2019, the City of Centralia became aware of allegations against Officer Clint Baer. The City takes these allegations seriously, as they are very concerning. Officer Baer has been removed from duty and his employment with the city terminated as of October 8, 2019. As this is an ongoing matter the City has no further comment at this time.”
According to the U.S. Department of Justice news release: “On October 1, 2019, Baer contacted the undercover agent, believing he was speaking with the mother of the 14-year-old girl, and set up a time and location to have sexual activity with the mother of the child and the 14-year-old girl. On October 7, 2019, Baer travelled from Centralia, Missouri, to Wentzville, Missouri, for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity with both. Baer was arrested in Wentzville. Baer is currently in federal custody.”
The news release also states “Charges set forth in the Complaint are merely accusations and do not constitute proof of guilt. Every defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty.”
The case, it said, is being investigated by the FBI and the St. Charles Police Department.
