Nearly 100 people, men and women, young and old, packed into the friendship place early afternoon, Saturday, Nov. 9, for the third annual Sovereign Disciples toy run.
Sovereign Disciples is a motorcycle club whose members want to give back to the community, said club president Brandon Beasley.
Many of them, Beasley said, know what it’s like to feel uncertainty, instead of hope, as Christmas approaches. “I grew up here, with very little money. I remember what it’s like,” Beasley said as people pulled up on motorcycles and pulled toys out of saddlebags and others took them out of the cabs of trucks or the trunks of cars.
“We saw a need and decided to fill it,” he said.
Tyler Romine, outreach coordinator for the Friendship Place and Friendship Christian Church, agreed. “There are families that fall through the cracks, we want to help,” he said. “Christmas is coming, people in need shouldn’t have to jump through a bunch of hoops to get the help they need.”
