‘The coats just are not coming in.’

A holiday-season Centralia tradition is returning.

The Centralia United Methodist Church’s coat drive is coming to an end for the season and soon church volunteers and friends will be distributing them, along with gloves, scarfs, hats and mittens from the church on Centralia’s Tarr Street.

Linda Crigler, along with Mary Ann Sander, has volunteered with the coat giveaway for at least 11 years, Crigler said..

When asked what kept her retuning every year, she said, “I enjoy helping people but it really is much bigger that me or the Centralia United Methodist Church. It takes the help of the entire community to make this successful. We receive donations of coats from the Knights of Columbus and coats, hats, and gloves from area residence. We also have generous people that come to our rummage sale and purchase items to help us raise money for the coming year so we can purchase school supplies and coats, hats, and gloves to give away.
