In honor of the class of 2020, Centralia High School will host a drive thru field lights celebration on Friday, May 1. It is also hosting second night of this celebration on Friday, May 15, which would have been the start of the weekend in which Senior Academic Awards and Graduation would have been held.
On both Friday May 1 and Friday May 15, Miller Field will be lit for 20 minutes, from 8 p.m. to 8:20 p.m. “We welcome all seniors, their families, friends, schoolmates, and community members to drive through the CHS West parking lot to see the lights and honk horns in recognition of the class of 2020,” CHS principal Matt Smith said in a news release.
“We ask that all those who choose to participate support our efforts to abide by social distancing guidelines, keeping in mind that Boone County is still recommending strict protocols in this regard. Please drive through, entering the parking lot from the East and exiting to the West. We also ask that you remain in your vehicles throughout your visit and we encourage our students to not ride together in groups as this practice defeats the purpose of maintaining personal safety from the spread of COVID-19.”
He also said: “Seniors rest assured that Centralia High School is continuing to closely monitor recommended safety protocols in the State of Missouri, and specifically in Boone County. We are doing so in an effort to be ready to release plans for some type of graduation ceremony this summer, if it is at all possible.”
