City of Centralia fights to correct water issues

Not everybody smiles when the topics of wastewater basins and slakers are raised in Centralia City Hall.

During the June 13 meeting of the Centralia Board of Aldermen’s Public Works and Public Utilities meeting, Mayor Chis Cox, used the phrase, “This is making me crazy,” to describe the situation involving a firm contracted to dig a wastewater basin and a manufacturer of the city water department’s slaker – a device best described as the city’s water-softener.

The full board of aldermen discussed the issue surrounding the city’s malfunctioning new slaker and their recent meeting with the owner of the company that built the slaker.

Cox expressed his displeasure with the company VeloDyne, their president – Paul Plache and what Plache allegedly said at a recent meeting. “This makes me crazy… He said ‘I don’t have a plan,’ he said he would have to come back and observe… He said this is trial and error. There’s nothing here.”
