Doris Lorraine Stone

Doris Lorraine Stone, 98 of Moberly passed away Sunday, March 24, 2024, at Valley View Health Care.

Graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, March 28, 2024, at the Mt. Horeb Cemetery in Sturgeon.

Doris was born on January 26, 1926, in Kearney, NE the daughter of Clarence “Bud” Mason and Lumya (Tate) Mason.

On April 10, 1944, in Kansas City, Doris married Otha “Jack” Stone and he preceded her in death on September 9, 2000.

Doris is survived by a son, Otha J. Stone, II and wife Patty of Rocheport, sons-in-law, Jerry Sullivan of Sturgeon, Romie Thornhill of Sturgeon,  a sister-in-law, Cleo Stone of Hallsville; grandchildren, Lucinda Levings (Andy) of Columbia, Jeffrey Sharp of Columbia, Daniel Thornhill (Yom) of Columbia, Jessica Stafford of Sturgeon, Kendra Byrum (Alexander) of Cumberland, MD, Krystal Harrison (William) of Louisiana, MO, Otha J. Stone III (Brooke) of Pensacola, FL; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces & nephews.

Along with her husband, Doris was preceded in death by her parents, daughters, Jacqueline Thornhill, Jennifer Sullivan, a son, Anthony Stone; three sisters, Dorothy Endicott, Clarissa “Tiny” Anders, and Beverly Tinpenny.

Doris was a Rosie the Riveter during World War II, working for the Pratt-Whitting company in Kansas City. She ran Jack’s Café in Sturgeon for many years, then worked for the University of Missouri as a supervisor in the Financial Aide office until her retirement.

Doris loved roses, she had an amazing green thumb, and could make anything grow.

She was an excellent grandmother, not only to her children but many others.
