Duane “Shorty” Hass, 89 of Centralia, passed away Friday, November 3, 2023, at Stuart House in Centralia.
Family and friends are invited to Shorty’s Life Celebration, 4:00 PM Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the Sunnydale Seventh Day Adventist Church in Centralia. There will be a visitation held from 3:00-4:00 PM Saturday at the church. Graveside services with full military honors will be held Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville.
Duane was born on August 15, 1934, in Fairmont, MN the son of Werner A. and Isabelle Selma (Weinbach) Hass.
Duane served his country in the United States Army. After returning from the service, Duane married Ruby Lorraine Lund on May 29, 1960, in Hutchinson, MN.
Shorty worked at Oak Park Academy, Nevada IA from 1968-1980, and then moved to work at Sunnydale Adventist Academy, Centralia MO until his retirement in 2018.
Along with his wife Ruby, Shorty is survived by his daughter Bunnia Greenwood of Centralia, son Durward Hass and wife Erin of Centralia; grandchildren Durwood “Woody” Hass, Dwayne “DW” Hass, Stacie Hass Kiefer and husband Kevin and sister Ginger Stepple of Northfield, MN.
Shorty was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Luke Hass and a son-in-law, Travis Greenwood.
Shorty enjoyed playing softball, gardening and fishing.
