Erman L. Call, 82, of Columbia, Missouri passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2024. Erman was born near Jamesport, MO to Fred and Thelma (Watkins) Call on July 14, 1941.

Erman moved to Columbia after graduating from Trenton College.  On January 24, 1964, Erman was united in marriage to Donna Colvin in Columbia, and she survives at their home.

Erman worked a variety of jobs, before joining the Columbia Fire Department. Prior to joining the Columbia Fire Department, Erman along with his wife Donna, worked as founding members of the Missouri Radio Squad Volunteer Fire Department which later became the Boone County Fire Protection District.  Erman continued as a volunteer firefighter for many years after joining the Columbia Fire Department in 1966 where he worked until retirement in 1997.

Erman’s retirement was unlike most.  Erman and his wife had reopened a hardware store following the death of his father.  The hardware store was Erman’s retirement plan. He spent many hours doing leatherwork, fixing chainsaws and visiting with customers, neighbors and friends.  Erman knew a lot about a lot of different things and was happy to share that knowledge with others.

In addition to his wife Donna Call, he is survived by two children:  Diana Mayes and Travis Call and a granddaughter, Ashley Mayes, all of Columbia.

He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Thelma Call, and a son-in-law, Barton Mayes.

A service was held on Monday, February 19, 2024 at Parker-Millard Funeral Service in Columbia.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Stair Climb – National First Responders Fund, 700 Montgomery Street, San Francisco, CA 94111.
