Garry Arthur Self, 84 of Blue Springs, formerly of Sturgeon, died Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at the St. Mary’s Hospital in Blue Springs.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Monday, May 16, 2022 at the Sturgeon United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Mt. Horeb Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at the church on Monday.
Garry was born on September 1, 1937, in Green Castle, MO, the son of James Franklin and Diona Elizabeth (Shott) Self.
On June 29, 1958 Garry married Anita Buchanan and she survives of the home.
Along with his wife Anita, Garry is survived by his children, Jerry Self and wife Terri of Blue Springs, Janice Patillo and husband Charlie of Blue Springs, John Self of Blue Springs, Jeff Self and wife Rhonda of Trimble, MO; grandchildren, Amanda Self of Kansas City, Gabrielle Self of Kansas City, Ben Patillo and wife Rachel of Omaha, Forest Self and Jeremy Self of Fremont, NE, Ashley Pringle and husband Antonio of Kansas City, Lindsay Amos and husband Alex of Smithville; great-granddaughters, Nora Pringle and Everly Amos; numerous nieces and nephews.
Garry was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter-in-law, Julie Self, his siblings, Leslie Self, Bill Self, Hugh Self, Lloyd Self, Betty Stackhouse, James Self, Jr. and Glenn Self.
Garry retired from UPS after 27 years of service.
Garry loved woodworking and was very skilled in it. He enjoyed puzzles, playing pool, hunting, fishing and volunteering at the Sturgeon Food Pantry and Riggs Church. Garry was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He loved his family especially his grandchildren.
In Lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be sent to the Friends of Mt. Horeb Cemetery or the Riggs Church and may be sent in care of Fenton-Kendrick Funeral Home, 104 S. Collier Centralia, MO 65240.
