The Hallsville Indians traveled to Macon and notched their first win of the season with a 46-15 mauling of the Tigers.
The Indians started slow turning the ball over on downs just outside the red zone on their first two possessions. On Macon’s second possession Jack Wooden intercepted a pass setting Hallsville up near mid field. The Indians moved downfield and Wyatt Morris rushed for a touchdown. The two-point attempt failed with Hallsville leading 6-0.
The Indian defense dominated Macon all night and forced Macon to punt on fourth down and 39. Fifty-one seconds into the second quarter Brayden Matheny rushed for a touchdown and again the two-point conversion failed making the score 12-0.
Hallsville forced a punt on the next possession and Macon’s punter dropped one inside the five-yard line. A fumbled snap resulted in a safety and the Tigers cut the lead to 12-2.
After another stop of the Macon offense Aidan Szczodroski caught a touchdown with 2:23 left in the half to make the score 18-0. The Indians forced a three and out and with less than a minute left in the half, Matheney connected with Isaac Stinson for a 44 yard touchdown. The two-point conversion failed and the teams went to the locker rooms with Hallsville leading 24-2.
Macon started the second half the way it ended the first with a three and out. Matheney and Stinson hooked up for a 24 yard touchdown to push the lead to 30-2. Later in the third Szczodroksi scored a 41 yard touchdown and Tison Perrigo carried for the two-point conversion for a 38-2 lead.
Macon opened the fourth with a long run by Derion White to set the Tigers up inside the ten and White scored a touchdown. The kick failed making the score 38-8.
At the 7:25 mark Gabriel Jenkins caught a touchdown. Perrigo converted the two-point conversion and the Indians led 46-8.
The Tigers did manage to score a touchdown with six seconds left and kicked the extra point for the final 46-15.
Matheney completed 21 of 31 attempts for 405 yards and five touchdowns. He also carried the ball five times for 40 yards and a touchdown. Morris had six carries for 30 yards and a touchdown. Stinson caught nine passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns, Szczodroski caught four balls for 106 yards and two touchdowns.
Morris led the defense with six solo tackles, four assists, a sack and four tackles for a loss. Carter Geisler had four solos, three assists, a sack and three tackles for a loss. Wooden had thee solos, two assists and an interception.
Hallsville travels to Eldon this week to take on the Mustangs.
