Hallsville School Board approves security upgrades

Security upgrades, staff accomplishments and a middle school construction update from Vaughn Construction  were on the schedule for the 20-member audience at the the April 24 meeting of the Hallsville Board of Education.

Vaughn Construction representatives told their audience, “we are on schedule we are hoping for middle July for teachers to be moving back into classrooms and an August ribbon cutting.”

He also mentioned final concrete replacement and the installation of a barrier fence at the new track were also on schedule.

Board and staff discussed two aspects of school security. Middle School Principal Ty Sides discussed “Safety Shield,” a program where students used an App to report concerning situations. It does a great job of getting the right people here.” He said work to make it better is ongoing.

Hallsville Superintendent John Downs discussed an expansion of the district’s security camera system. The total coast will be $49,985, from the Turing system, the winner of the five bidders. Downs said each camera system is visible from each principals’ desk or a wall-mounted monitor.
